Seiko watches are fine time pieces. One of our favorite watch types, we love when we get a chance to work on these watches. 
Seiko watch batteries should only be changed by a professional Seiko watch battery specialist. Seriously, these watches can be complicated and often have latch release pieces on the battery that cause parts to fling out when changing the battery. We are not just trying to promote Seiko watch battery replacement service. We’ve had a couple different Seiko’s in the shop recently that needed replacement parts as a result of a home operation gone poorly. Open Your Seiko Watch
- Remove the back cover of the watch
- Watches open several different ways, some pop open with a special tool, others require a watch clamp to unscrew. Many newer Seiko watches are made with screw down backs
- Determine which model watch you have and which type of Seiko watch battery you’ll be replacing.
- The best way to do this is by removing the back cover of the watch and looking at what type of battery is inside
- Take your time to photograph or video the entire process, its a good way to be able to see how it looked originally in case an accident happens.
- We suggest setting up a felt laced station when completing a repair, it makes it easier to find anything that get lost during the process.
- Use a threaded watch screw driver to remove any screws securing the battery to the case of the watch
- It is imperative that you use the proper non-magnetized tools, watch components are delicate and fragile once exposed.
Seiko Watch Battery
- Using watch clamps or tweezers, carefully remove the old battery
- Do not pull or yank, if the battery doesn’t remove easily, it’s not ready to come out. Improper seating or corrosion may have occurred to the existing battery.
- Install the new battery purchased from WatchGnome or another authorized retailer.
- Do not touch the new battery with your fingers, residual dirt or grease will significantly decrease lifespan of the battery
- Review the video or photos of the process so far, begin noting what is needed to rebuild the watch.
- Do not rush this process, now is when mistakes happen in the repair process
- Reseat watch cover, test the watch and set the time
