La Maison Dior was established in 1946 in Paris when Christian Dior began designing women's clothing as part of Marcel Boussac's french textile business. Dior launched his first fashion collection a year later and became an international star when Harper's Bazaar proclaimed his line the "New Look." The New Look took off and became the inspiration for many other fashion designers for over a decade. Dior gained clients in Hollywood and in the European aristocracy, and Paris regained its preeminence in the world of fashion as a result.
